New Rooms for Your Homes!

Hello, NarniaMUCK players!

I'm writing to outline a new feature for the silver apple marketplace that staff have been working on: extra rooms that you can purchase for your homespaces! We’re hoping that this will both facilitate more interesting and realistic RP scenarios and give characters and players who don’t train combat skills something exciting to spend their silver apples on. This will be a sort of beta test, so bear with us as we work out any remaining details in the process.

This is how the system currently works:

  1. When you’ve saved up your silver apples and decided to spend them on a new room for your homespace, go to the play enhancers tent in the silver apple marketplace. If this is your first extra room for this character, buy the ‘Extra Homespace Room #1’ token for 100 silver apples. If this is your second extra room, purchase the ‘Extra Homespace Room #2’ token for 200 silver apples.
  2. Page or page #mail a staff member and tell them that you’ve purchased an extra room token that you would like to redeem. Most on-duty staff members can do this for you, but if you happen to get one who can’t, he or she will pass on your request to someone who can. Most species and locations will have two options that they can choose from: a storage area (which in most cases will have larder properties so that you don’t have to use larder baskets/creels!) and a bedroom. If this is your first purchased room, you get to choose which one you want; if you already have an extra room, you’ll automatically get whichever one you don’t already have. If you need help deciding, staff can give you more specifics about the options available to your character. If your character has more than one homespace, make sure to specify which one you want to apply your new room token toward!
  3. The staff member will take your token and build your new room for you, complete with a generic description of the space you selected. Like existing homespaces, you will control your new room and will be able to change the description to reflect the specifics of what your character’s home looks like, within reason (in other words, we reserve the right to step in if we see Badgers @describing crystal palaces for themselves).
  4. Invite people over to RP in your newly renovated homespace!

Some quick points to keep in mind:

  • Remember that each homespace has a limit of two extra rooms. If you purchase a third room token as the same character, staff will instruct you to choose one of your alts to use it for, or else to save it in your silver apples locker for another alt to use down the road.
  • These new rooms will not transfer if you abandon your current homespace and claim a new home somewhere else, so be careful when selecting where and when to apply your purchased rooms. Also think about whether your character would really want to move away from his or her home before you choose to abandon a homespace (after all, your character may have invested time, effort, and money in those extra rooms!).
  • This new feature won’t be available to herding and pack species due to the community nature of herd/pack homespaces. It also won’t be available to characters who live in a group setting like a barracks or staff area, or in one of the Archenland manors (Carmichael, Lancelyn Green, Coghill, or Chesterton). If you purchase a new homespace using one of these characters, staff will instruct you to choose another of your characters to use it for, or else to save it in your silver apples locker for an alt to use down the road.
  • Featured characters won’t be charged for extra rooms if they have a good reason to have those extra rooms. This is because they share silver apples with all of the other featured characters and often don’t RP as much as other characters do, so saving up a large number of apples can be difficult. If you play a featured character and have an IC reason to have extra rooms in your homespace, contact staff and we will work with you to set them up.

We hope that you will enjoy and make good use of this new system! Please let me know if you have any questions or feedback!
