A friend of mine has been working on a novel for a number of years (I don't think he has it published yet) centered around a unicorn stallion protagonist. The stallion develops a romantic interest in a unicorn mare, and within the story sings a song describing his uncertainty in pursuing this romantic interest.
When my friend (the author) finished the rough draft, he was chatting with me on a social MUCK (one more for OOC chatting than RP) while re-reading through the draft from start to mention and he stumbled upon a placeholder he had left in the story where he had intended to write in song lyrics. Chatting about this with me, I took a few minutes out of boredom and concocted lyrics, pasted them into my chat and my friend loved them and decided to use them.
I had been a fan of a furry musician who goes by Chama C. Fox. On a "what the heck, why not?" whim, several months after coming up with the lyrics, I e-mailed them to Chama and asked if he'd consider composing music and recording the song. To my pleasant surprise, he did! He e-mailed me an .MP3 of a rough recording, very beautiful but with a recording glitch (a couple electronic chirps and some buzz). Unfortunately, he never completed the recording and ask that I not post the rough recording anywhere publicly, so unfortunately I cannot, though I'd be happy to share it by e-mail if anyone is interested. Anyhow, here are the lyrics I wrote (Chama modified them a bit when he composed actual music to get them to actually fit in a song):
---
When I graze the sweetest grass,
It recalls my hunger for you
When at night my eyes shut at last,
In my dreams by your love I'm enraptured
When I see the sparkle in your eyes,
When I see the gleam of your horn
My heart dances and my soul flies,
But I fear in asking this we'd be torn,
Do you love me as I deeply love you?
Do you hear my heart gallop toward you?
Does Equus long for us to become two?
Or is my mere fantasy a dream untrue?
When I gaze upon the stars at night,
I wonder where below them you are
When rain seeps into my coat so light,
I feel your soul seep into my heart
When I chance a gaze upon your coat,
When my ears hear a whicker from you,
My heart warms and my soul hums a note
But I am mute with fear in asking you...
Do you love me as deeply as I love you?
Do you hear my heart gallop toward you?
Does Equus long for us to become two?
Or is my mere fantasy a dream untrue?
