MU clients and Windows 7

Hey everybody
I need some help. I used to use SimpleMu with no problems back in the old days. But now I have Windows 7 on my laptop and am having all sorts of issues, which I'm guessing may be connected to the new OS. I have to reinstall every time I close and reopen the program, and get strange number strings in the middle of the page or text(I think it's the little object number that's supposed to be next to something just showing up in a random place) Anybody have any other clients that might work, or a way to make Win 7 and SimpleMu play nice?

I think MUSHClient and Win7 work nicely together.

I use Win7 and SimpleMU and every time it does ask me "UM ARE YOU SURE ABOUT THIS; THIS LOOKS SKETCHY". I recall having a bigger problem at first but I don't remember how I fixed it. I'll dig around and see if I can find something.

I don't use SimpleMU regularly myself, since I'm usually not mu*ing from a windows machine. But I was testing out some things and I had the same problems as Niffum: It'd work when first installed but thereafter crash when starting it. Reinstall temporarily fixes it. The Win7 installer system is a little different, which is likely causing the difficulty.

If you find a tech note on how to fix it, Antheia, that'd be really helpful!

Layavin has Windows 7, and I think she uses MUSHclient, but I'm not sure... she's away this weekend but I'll find out later.

I use MUSHclient, but I don't have Windows 7, so I don't really count... I used to use SimpleMU, and loved it, but I started having problems with it as well.

I've used MUSHClient on Windows 7. It was only a few times, but I don't remember it working any differently than it does on my PC (I use Vista).

I do remember MUSHClient being a little complicated to figure out at first when compared with SimpleMU, but I've been using it for a few years now, and it hasn't glitched on me the way SimpleMU used to.

I use SimpleMU with Windows 7, and as far as I'm aware there haven't been any compatibility issues.

I usually have to right-click and select the "Run as Administrator" option, but then it seems to be smooth sailing.

Haven't been able to figure out how to connect on a Vista computer, but I'm not a fan of Vista anyway, so... ;)

I use Vista and I've never had any problems. :) MUSHclient is my weapon of choice. I haven't been able to get SimpleMU installed correctly.

('sides, I like MUSHclient better. so there.)

SimpleMU *does* work on Vista machines, but it must be run as administrator.

On Vista and Windows 7 machines, I now use the Potato MU client. It is a very nice little client and looks a lot like SimpleMU and does almost everything the paid version does. (I used SimpleMU for 11 years, even paid for the full-featured version, but the author seems to have stopped supporting it or doing anything with it several years ago. I have been on MUs with Talvo who does the Potato client. He's a MUSHer and though I haven't seen him around lately, I know he actually supports the client. Anyway, it works on Windows and Linux, and here's the link.

I am wondering:

who first looked at a MU client and said, oh wow you guys, this makes me think of a potato!

(anyway irrelevant I'm sure it's a very nice program)

I've never found a client I like as well as the venerable TinyFugue (though mud.el for Emacs is a nostalgic second choice). Recently I've been running tf from my Unix shell service (SDF.org, highly recommended for anyone who likes using the Unix command line, or wants to learn how). That way I can keep my worlds file, macros definitions, and other configuration in one place and use the same environment from most any PC in the world with an Internet connection and a SSH client (for Windows 7, I recommend the free PuTTY).
