A Gesture of Goodwill

(Some backstory may be needed to comprehend this log. Lady Paige, Tyre and Tyren's oppressive mother, opposed the union of Tyren and Astera so violently that she actually forbade Astera from ever entering her house. She didn't have control over that-- due largely to Lune's intercession-- but she did have control over making Astera's life miserable. The reclusive Tyre has primarily avoided the whole mess.)

The Nursery is an unpretentious, functional room with a dark wood four-poster
bed trimmed by crisp white linens and a dark blue quilt. Windows framed by
dark blue curtains open to the east and south lawns, providing ample
lighting. Perched in the corner between the windows is a small shelf bearing
three slightly worn wooden knights, the paint still discernible. The wardrobe
against the wall and chest at the end of the bed supply storage. A wooden
sword is propped up in the corner.

A door leads out to the Upper Foyer.

There are three raps on the door.

Astera calls, "Come in."

A servant opens the door. Tyre stands with his hands dutifully behind his back in the doorway. He looks like a military man at attention, except more dull.

Astera is holding Lana, standing near a cradle. She is humming softly and the baby looks very near to falling asleep.

Tyren stands by his wife, a faint smile on his face. He glances toward the doorway, beckoning toward his brother. "Ah, evening, Tyre. This is a bit of a surprise."

Tyre's ears redden a bit and he gives a small, hasty bow. "Uh, yes, I imagine so."

Astera looks over and nods to him, smiling. "Good evening Lord Tyre." She carefully puts Lana in the cradle and gives a curtsey.

Tyren chuckles as he dips a bow in return. "A surprise, but not an unwelcome one. How fare you this eve?"

Tyre rubs his forehead. "Ahm, yes, fine, ah, sorry actually I'm... here for Lady Astera."

Astera looks surprised, glancing at her husband.

Tyren lifts a brow, his own surprise registering through the motion. "Indeed?"

Tyre says, "Ah, yes, with this-- gift-giving... game... that Lord Shar and Lady Elriya have organized; er, you may have found some packages--"

Astera gives a soft 'ah' and nods. "Yes, I did. I received some very lovely gifts."

Astera smiles.

Tyren's brow lifts a bit higher, as does a corner of his mouth, though he keeps quiet for the moment.

Tyre thrusts forth a very small package, letting the words and the gift in connection provide the conclusion he intends her to make.

Astera takes the package, her smile widening. "Thank you Lord Tyre. I have found the gifts to be both beautiful and practical. I am very eager to make use of them."

Tyre pushes his glasses up his nose and gestures for her to open the package.

Tyren's curiosity is evident as he glances toward the parcel himself.

Astera glances to her husband, offering him a small smile before carefully unwrapping the package.

Tyre gives a small nod when a key is revealed, as if affirming to himself that he wrapped the right thing. He clears his throat. "To the nursery in Chesterton." He pauses before adding. "I've, ah, made sure, ah, it's the only key."

Astera's eyes widen a little and her smile wobbles. She gives a soft 'heh' and is quiet for a few moments, gathering her thoughts. Her eyes glisten in the light and she smiles again looking to Tyre, "Thank you milord." She opens her mouth and closes it, then looks to her husband and smiles again, momentarily at a loss for words.

Tyre gives a quick, short nod. "I ah, hope you shall not find it necessary to be absent so often, now."

Tyren chuckles softly, smiling himself. He says simply, "It is quite the gift."

Astera smiles broadly at this, her eyes bright. Her voice is very quiet but pleased, "I... thank you... I will put it to very good use."

Tyre coughs. "Ahm, so, yes, I'll just-- leave you to it, then."

Astera goes to Tyre and politely kisses his cheek, her expression radiant. Her tone is warm, "Thank you sir for the wonderful gifts. I look forward to seeing the nursery."

Tyren lifts both brows at this, for a moment looking very much like his mother, and lets out a low 'heh.' "We shall have to see that it is soon."

Tyre startles, and his bland expression is interrupted for a moment with the genetically-inherited raised brows, his normally sallow skin gaining an impressive amount of color. He maintains the self-control not to start away from her advance. "Ahhhhh-- yes, ahhh, you're quite-- quite welcome. You should--find everything is prepared for you."

Astera looks pleased, "Excellent."

Tyren can't quite hide a rather amused smirk at his brother's response - and so doesn't really bother trying.

Tyre coughs and bows hastily, "If you'll excuse me I'd really better see to-- ah--"

Astera gives a small nod. She curtseys, "Have a good eve, Sir Tyre. I thank you for taking time from your very busy schedule to visit."

Tyren bows himself. "Of course. A good eve to you then, brother."

Tyre says, "Ahm, yes, you're welcome. Well, I'll just-- see you, then."

Astera gives another small nod, still smiling.

Tyren chuckles quietly. "Until then."

Tyre makes haste, as the phrase goes.
