WANTED: Your Logs

In case you haven't seen it yet, the website has a new look! It's pretty fantastic, there's a webconnect to the game, and you all should check it out. And then use the “compliment” command in-game to say THANK YOU, FEAELIN in very large letters. :D

Along with updating the site's look, we're also working on updating the content. To that end, we've decided to launch an ongoing “roleplay-of-the-month” program, starting in April. We'll be choosing one outstanding RP every month to feature on the website to show our visitors what we have to offer.

So here's how it works:

Submit your scrubbed (no OOC chat, no prey/health/hunger spam, etc.) RP logs here. We'll be going through these on a regular basis to determine which do the best job of portraying the NarniaMUCK style of RP. Things we're looking for include consistent characters, creative scene-setting, believable poses, and good spelling/grammar.

At the end of the month, we'll pick out three to five of our favorites and post them for you to vote on. The participants of the winning RP will all be awarded 10 Silver Apples, and the log will be posted on the website. The runners-up will be awarded 5 Silver Apples. Sweet deal, huh?

EDIT: Just realized I never actually said. You're totally allowed and encouraged to submit as many logs as you want! You don't have to limit yourself to one log per month! Sorry for any misunderstanding. :D

How do you save logs and scrub them?

It depends what client you are using, but there should a "start logging" option. In SimpleMU, it's under File, and it will send the log to a notepad type document in a folder under whatever you've named the NarniaMUCK world (for me, I do one world for each character, so I have logs under character names). I know Trebuchet's logging system is extremely similar, but I've not used other clients.
"Scrubbing" consists essentially of getting rid of the spam-- be it deers coming in and out of your RP, ooc chatter, or what's called "travel spam"-- if your RP consists of a lot of moving from room to room, you'll want to delete whatever room descs are present for rooms that you didn't actually RP in. Some folks also like to have the "You" replaced with your character's name... I'm not sure if we have a declared thought on that yet.

You can use this:
http://www.thelionscall.com/muck/scrubber.cfm
to scrub your logs for you. The only problem with it is that we didn't create it and we don't own the site where it's held, so it could get deleted and there wouldn't be anything (so far as I know) that we could do to recover the program, at which point, everyone will have to start scrubbing the hard way. Nevertheless, it's a pretty nifty program and it makes the job a lot easier. :)

Edit: We now have a new, currently-maintained log scrubber at http://leopardus.org/scrubber.html.

Do they have to be recent as of this month or so? (I don't mean five years ago) but if it was a bit of a while since you have Rp'ed it?

Eh, we'd like most of them to be fairly recent, on account of that way people can stay up-to-speed on NM current events, but if you have a really really good log from a while ago that you want to submit, that's fine. But we'll probably be paying more attention to newer logs and they'll have a better chance of making it into the contest, so. ;) Up to you!

Is this contest still going on? It seems to have died out a few months ago...

I think it's going on more lazily-- like if we see a particularly good log, we'll post it, but it's no longer a monthly vote.

It partly died out because it was a lot of work and partly because we stopped getting submissions, particularly from a variety of people. I bet if lots of people started submitting again you could persuade us. :)
