Nobility in Narniamuck

In the Middle Ages and Narnia you have Nobility and Aristocracy as the general ruling elements of almost every nation.

Now givent that we mainly have Lords and Dukes as the Stewards of Narnia, and we know in the books that each of the four monarchs was given a part of narnia, I think it would be cool to split up narnia amongst the stewards.

For Example Peridan would be the (insert title) of Cair Paravel, or eastern Narnia. Oren youcld rule bergdale and sorroundings. Maybe Avery would be given a Title in the GW and etc etc.

I think it would be more interesting if the titles of certain charachters would actually be tied to places and other persons and they would have responsibility there. So that for instance Oren spends a good amount of time around Begdale, and has to run government there etc etc.

Any bigger thoughts anyone would want to share?

I like this idea. Maybe suggest giving Oren the region that would have been his as the descendant of the crown prince’s brother. Would that be Lantern Waste? It would be a nice excuse to get the stewards out and about, dealing with their holdings. They might hold hearings on certain days or host local festivals.

I have a few thoughts here. First, in my reading of the books, those regional titles were more symbolic. The Kings and Queens were all rulers of Narnia together, and to me it very much seems like they ruled Narnia as a group, with their roles assigned according to their personal strengths rather than by region. That was definitely how it worked on NarniaMUCK before they disappeared. Aside from the High King, they all had equal authority everywhere in Narnia. Second, I don't think that being stewards would entitle us to rule a part of Narnia in the way that a title such as a duchy or earldom would. Oren might have a hereditary title from way back, but I don't think that the rest of us should have a title that is usually permanent for a role that is meant to be temporary. Third, just from a logistics standpoint, since we already have curiates to handle local matters or bring them to the rulers if necessary, having the stewards also handling local government issues directly seems redundant and like not the most efficient use of the stewards' time. We have so many things to get up to speed on, whereas the regional curiates already know the local people/dynamics/issues, you know?

That said, having the stewards get out and around Narnia does seem like a good idea to me--just maybe with us all being invested in all of Narnia together?
