I have already gotten a nest in the Pine tree and RPed having done so, which while it doesn't demand much coin, I would expect ICly would have some rent associated with it.
I did, in fact, deposit coins at a charity place and would probably like to do so regularly, but doing it with fish takes awhile and depletes the fishing spots others might want for RP.
I have left you a p #mail and I hope you catch this, because at the moment, Farflight and Skarlieth and I are trying to collaborate stuff, including plans to send a scout to LW, it would be great if an RP staff could be on to bounce ideas off of and ensure whatever is decided is kosher.

Nope, no rent in the Bergdale pine! I'm actually not thinking of any homeplaces in Narnia that would have rent associated with them, but trees, burrows, and dens are definitely just homes that beasts have made for themselves out of the resources available. The coin cost associated with homespaces is actually a limitation of having adapted Some Other MUCK's homespace program. Any cost of homespaces should be set the the absolute bare minimum of one coin, and even that cost should not be regarded as having any actual IC bearing. All you're doing ICly is what's described in the @succ message that it spits out when you claim a home: showing up and moving in.

Gwylyn lived in the Bergdale Pine, before she decided to up and move back to Archenland. It works great for me.
Size-wise, I think she's a bit small as far as Narnian Eagles go. I actually didn't know that female eagles (in RL) are bigger than the males.....I though it was the other way around.
Gwy's a lot smaller than Skarlieth, but probably a bit bigger than an RL eagle (because, you know, Talking Animals in Narnia are usually bigger than RP animals. Unless you happen to be an elephant or something big like that). Probably not *that* much bigger, though.
As for making money, I usually pick grass and herbs and stuff like that and sell them. If I need to flay a squirrel or something, there are NPCs who will flay them fore me. It costs money, though. But I couldn't find a place where I could buy a flaying knife anyways.
But food is easy to come by, and all you really need in the game is food and good RP. Combat is always nice, too.

On the subject of whether eagles could write, I just thought of something in the story -- when the Pevensies return to Tumnus' home to find a poster left -- and even signed -- by Maugrim/Fenris Ulf. Would someone else have signed it, or could the wolves actually write?

Rent seems Un-Narnian to me for the same reason that mandatory schools are Un-Narnian. Narnians are free to pursue education such as herbology or weapons training if they like privately, but the royals aren't making them sit in a classroom for 8 hours a day. Narnians are supposed to be free to live natural lives without having to worry about fake needs like mandatory rent or mandatory schooling. (Do Narnians even pay taxes per se?)
In a crowded place, I could maybe see a beast doing a service for a beast who has given up his/her lair to them such as helping in patrols- just like guards who would stay in the barracks to guard a castle. In that way, the rent is "free" but a service is given in return for a service. Bartering.
I could also see a beast doing a grateful service to a community for being allowed to live nearby- such as shoveling the sidewalk of an elderly person or the Narnian equivalent- fishing for poor Pesca, the bear who lost her claws in the war.
I'm not an expert in book interpretation. It's just a thought that I had.
